The Speed is EXCELLENT. There is NO DOWNTIME at all.
Their plans range from Rs. 199 (400 MB - 256 kbps) to Rs. 9,999 (18 GB - 2mbps) a month. I have bought a plan called DSL599. It’s a great value for money.
Let me move on to everything step by step:
Requirements: An MTNL telephone line A computer with a Windows based Operating System (Of course Linux or any other OS of choice should be fine but they won’t be able to help you with that) Ethernet Card (Network Card) or WIFI
Registration Process: The registration process is very easy. All you have to do is call the helpline people at 1500 from the same MTNL line that you intend setting up TRIBAND. Over the helpline ask for the TRIBAND facility and inform them about the Plan/Package required.
When you dial 1500 or 1504, you will have option to dial 1 for Marathi, 2 for Hindi and 3 for English. Whatever number you press the answer will be in Hindi or Marathi.
The registration / installation charge is Rs. 300.
They charge Rs. 500 as the initial / non-refundable deposit for a modem. This is only if you intend using their modem. Rs. 80 is what they charge as rentals every month for using their modem.
You can also buy such a modem from an appropriate shop and save Rs. 500 as well as Rs. 80 per month.
I had purchased this modem (DLink ADSL 2 Router – GLB 502T) for Rs. 1375/-.
Time Required: They require around 1 week of time to get the things rolling. However, if it takes more than a week then it means it’s time that you make a visit to the applicable telephone exchange and enquire about it.
Reasons for delay are usually issues with the Local Server, Work Orders and so on.
Visiting the exchange usually solves the issues quickly.
Installation: Their technician will call you before they intend visiting your place. There is nothing much to install actually. They just change your computer's IP and configure the modem with your username and password. The technician configures the stuff and connection is usually up in 10 minutes.
Things to be taken care of: First change your modem admin panel’s password. The admin panel is accessible by pointing your web browser to http://192.168.1.1
The default username and password will be admin and admin. Now since it is very easy to guess so it is better to change it. To change the password, login to the admin panel, click the Tools tab and key in the new password.
Troubleshooting: There are generally no issues with the net connection and you do not need to contact the TRIBAND support. But if you need to contact them for some technical issue then do not expect them to solve your problem. You won’t find technically sound staff at the helpline. Of course they will be able to fix the most basic issues.
They usually give you a complaint number and then you need to follow it up regularly till the issue is fixed.
The best way to solve an unresolved issue would be to use GOOGLE for technical errors you get. This is an easy way to trace out the problems.
Customer Support: The people at MTNL (telephone exchange as well as on phone) are very polite and helpful but the only thing they lack is resources, they are ready to help you with their best but they don’t have enough resources, answers ready to help.
