To develop an application for learning purpose:
 
Usually the standard
process is:

Choose a business model of choice such as
Inventory Management System or somthing like that.
 
Document the
business process flow.

Decide on the modules you intend building.


Choose the desired technology such as JSP/Servlet with EJB and so
on.

Begin coding one module at a time.
 
Finally integrate.
